Project - A web gallery

What can be seen on the monitor can also be distributed across the internet to as many people as you can persuade to look. Posting a selection of my images to a web gallery is quite straightforward (!), I have indeed purchased an account approximately a year ago, I've yet to post a single thing to it!

I should concentrate on two aspects that will establish the character and quality of my gallery - preparing the images for on-screen display and designing the viewers experience of visiting the site in such a way that it shows off my images to the best of their advantage.

The size of images should be considered, usually large delivers a stronger visual impact, but this may be offset by slower loading. Might want to consider which would benefit from a certain amount of sharpening.

The second aspect is editorial and concerns the design of the pages and the sequencing of images.
  • decide what I want from my website, what is it's purpose?
  • consider the website as an arena for the very best images
  • the image comes first, displayed to its best advantage ie not fighting with anything around it
  • everything needs a reason, add symbols, buttons as necessary
  • do I want it to fit in, or be different
  • keep it simple
  • offer the fewest clicks to navigate
  • make it searchable
  • get other peoples opinions
Ideas for my website from looking around:
  • gallery - best images
  • blog link
  • rolling images across screen - easy viewing of images
  • subscribe to mailing list - after deciding what to do with subscribers!
