Arnold Newman (portraits)

Newman photographed personalities such as Marlene Dietrich, John F Kennedy, Pablo Picasso (!), Marilyn Munroe, Ronald Reagan, Audrey Hepburn to name but a few. What incredible opportunities!

He took his photographs in familiar surroundings with representative visual elements relating to their profession and personalities, this method is called environmental portraiture, Newman is credited with being the first photographer to work in this way where he places the subject in a carefully controlled setting to capture the essence of the individual's life and work.
