It took a while to figure out where the tools were in Lightroom, I exported to PSE but this just added to my confusion as I'd not used PSE in a while as I'm trying to get used to Lightroom. Once I located the right tools for the job, I was able to outline the area of Sophie's eyes, I tried to increase the exposure first but this just lightened them too much so I 'undid' what I'd done. I then tried the same process but increasing the colour saturation instead, which gave me the depth of colour I wanted.:
As far as improvement or interpretation goes, I do think the image is improved as the depth of the colour in the bottom left quarter goes some way to balance the colour of the trees and therefore the image as a whole. The original is still a nice picture but the improved one draws attention to the blue of Sophie's eyes, although they still look natural, I don't think that an unusual or strange colour would suit this image. I'm not really against altering images as long as there is truth in the image as far as content and without attempt to deceive I suppose. Improvement certainly has it's place but at the same time doesn't for me.
